SHUT DOWN DRONE WARFARE, Spring Action 2025

SCHEDULE

Check out our exciting SDDW Week of Resistance:
The full schedule for SDDW spring action week at Holloman Killer Drone Base is nearly complete.  There may be some small changes as the date draws nearer.

To help you make your travel plans:
Specific details (days and times) of daily activities & vigils planned are HERE.
More detailed descriptions of the week's activities are below.

PLEASE NOTE:  The most important part of our peacemaking are the commute hour vigils where we work to change hearts and minds.  If you can't participate for more than a couple of days, best to come Mon. thru Wed. afternoon in order to participate in the climactic nonviolent peaceful resistance action planned Wed. early morning:  NO DRONES FOR GENOCIDE or WAR!  Ground all militarized drones now!  (Risking arrest is optional)
  • Daily themed M-F vigils,  (6:30-8:30 am & 3:30-5:30 pm) during commute hrs. at Holloman AFB, to educate, foster GI resistance and “connect the dots” from militarism to climate destruction, environmental degradation, nuclear threat of annihilation and more.  "No To Genocide, FREE PALESTINE," will be central in our messaging.  We demand A CALL TO CONSCIENCE.  Hundreds of cars commute to the base daily:  Help us break the silence!  Have new and fresh ideas for messaging/themes?  Please contact us.  NO WEAPONS OR MONEY FOR GENOCIDE!  Gaza and the West Bank will take center stage to show solidarity to the people of Palestine who are enduring horrific violence at the hands of the Israeli Apartheid State.   FREE PALESTINE NOW!
  • Day of Nonviolent Resistance:  At least one day of peaceful resistance (nonviolent direct action) to the racist US drone war machine will take place mid-week. Participation in "risk arrest activity" is optional, and support roles are equally important and needed for this resistance to be successful!
  • Nonviolence Preparation Workshop; Facilitated by Erica Kay, New Mexico local and longtime activist.
  • Apr. 21, Mon. Local Guitarist Albert LaFave from Carrizozo, NM to join us.  "Authentic folk Americana musician," also known as "Fuzzy Dylan," will uplift us with great favorites from Dylan, John Prine, Donavan, Cat Stevens, etc.  Some sing-a-long opportunities welcomed.  "Fuzzy Dylan" singing:  Try to Catch the Wind.
  • Flash Mob Dance Vigil at Holloman to this tune: "War, What is it Good For, Absolutely Nothing!" (Edwin Starr)   Learning video to be posted in early/mid April.
  • Poetry Night at Camp Justice:  Share your own poetry or recite other(s)!
  • March/Rally in Alamogorodo:  NO U.S. DRONES FOR GENOCIDE,  Demilitarize and End Drone Warfare Now!  NMSU-Las Cruces students to join us.  (Apr. 25)
  • Film Showing/DiscussionWhat I Want You to Know with discussion led by film's producer and U.S. Iraq War Army veteran Travis Weiner.
  • Teach-In: "The Tricky Psychology of Drone Warfare," with Nick Mottern - Alamogordo;  Why we MUST abolish militarized drones NOW!  Nick Mottern is Co-founder of Ban Killer Drones and Board member of Veterans For Peace.
  • Teach-In on Depleted Uranium Weapons & Book Talk, with Damacio Lopez: (Correction: Date TBD)  Damacio is a New Mexico downwinder and a victim of U.S. depleted uranium (DU) weapons testing less than 2 miles from his family home!  He devoted decades of his life researching the effects of DU weapons, educating the public, and working for a global ban, as a  co-founder of the ICBUW, the International Coalition to Ban Uranium Weapons.  He's returning to SDDW to discuss his new book:  Memoirs of a Veteran: Abolish Depleted Uranium Weapons.
  •  Special Tribute in Remembrance and Celebration of our Friend, Ken Mayers.                        (Date TBD)  Member of Veterans For Peace, Santa Fe Chapter, New Mexico, Ken was a principal organizer of our first two years of drone resistance at Holloman AFB, 2023/2024.  He dedicated much of his life to the cause of peace & justice,  and we are deeply grateful for his contributions to our anti-drone campaign.  We will miss his warm and loving spirit.  Ken Mayers Presente!
  • Excursions Planned - Discover the natural beauty and unique history of Alamogordo.  Optional: start the week with easy or moderate hikes near Camp Justice, our SDDW group campsite.   April 20:  Afternoon group hike into beautiful Dog Canyon, a moderate hike that skirts the nearby canyon wall.  (Strenuous first mile) Other optional excursions to be planned throughout the week.
Please spread the word to help magnify our voices to tell the US government and military that militarized drones are NEVER okay.  A huge presence is essential and relevant now more than ever before in the midst of the ongoing U.S. assisted Israeli genocide in Palestine and the expansion of Isreali-U.S. aggression throughout the Middle East, including Lebanon, Yemen, Syria, Iran and elsewhere.  U.S. and Israeli drones play a huge role in this violence. We must not be complacent.  (Hundreds of cars enter Holloman everyday to help keep the drone warfare machinery functioning.)
